Following in the footsteps of American Airlines last week, United Airlines has now been given approval by the Department of Transportation in the United States to fly the Los Angeles-Shanghai route.
The route is already in popular demand with Business travellers, and looks set to become the main target for competition between these two major American airlines.
United Airlines will provide Business and First class passengers the chance to begin flying the Los Angeles-Shanghai route from the 20th of May next year. This will be just a month later than rival airline American Airlines.
Both of the airlines will be using the Boeing 777 aircrafts in their fleet to fly this route. The aircraft comes equipped with a full First Class and Business Class cabin. First Class cabins come equipped with angled seats for optimum privacy and space, providing 16 seats that recline into full flat beds.
The new Boeing 777 aircrafts will generate approximately 15% less CO2 emissions than other aircrafts, and will be more fuel-efficient for long haul flights.
The addition of this Los Angeles-Shanghai route is consistent with both of the American airlines’ future objectives. That is, to increase the amount of flying they do to popular and well-known destinations for Business travellers.
