Qatar Airways Introduces Inmarsat "Super WiFi"

Like being able to surf the Internet on a long-haul flight? Qatar Airways is rolling out high-speed “Super Wi-Fi” across its fleet of B777 and A350 aircraft. The airline is the first airline in the Middle East and North Africa region to utilise Inmarsat's new GX Aviation inflight broadband service; the world's first inflight broadband solution with reliable, seamless high-speed global coverage provided through a single operator. 

Following a successful inflight test campaign across the airline's global network, more than 130 of Qatar Airways' Boeing 777s and A350s will now feature the new high-speed Wi-Fi, meaning customers will now be able to enjoy faster and more reliable Internet in the sky. 

Passengers will be offered one-hour of free access to GX Aviation, after which they can purchase "affordable" full-flight access, although prices have yet to be released. 

His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, said: “In another first for the MENA region, Qatar Airways passengers can now enjoy high-speed broadband connectivity, providing rich content without restriction, whether using the internet for work or relaxation during their journey. Business travellers in particular will be able to maximise their ‘office in the sky’ with seamless continuity.”

Airlines connect to the GX network using exclusive new JetWave terminals produced by Honeywell Aerospace. The terminals are designed for ease of installation and maintenance to assure the lowest downtime for any cabin connectivity solution. Airlines like Qatar Airways can install the terminals with minimal labour and using standard tools available in maintenance hangars.
