Singapore Airlines' New A380 Cabin Products Take Off

Singapore Airlines' first Airbus A380 aircraft fitted with all-new cabin products has entered service. The aircraft took its first scheduled flight between Singapore and Sydney on Monday 18th December as flight SQ221, departing Singapore at 20:40hrs and arriving into Sydney at 07:40hrs the following day. It will return as flight SQ232, departing Sydney at 12:15hrs and arriving into Singapore at 17:35hrs.

To mark the occasion, a special event was held at the boarding gate room at Singapore Changi Airport, and customers departing for Sydney were presented with gift bags containing collectibles including a commemorative certificate, glassware, stationery and amenity kit.

The aircraft is the first of five new A380s ordered from Airbus, which are each fitted with the new cabin products, including six Suites, 78 Business Class seats, 44 Premium Economy Class seats and 343 Economy Class seats. Eventually the new products will also be retrofitted on the 14 aircraft that are already in service.

Singapore Airlines CEO, Mr Goh Choon Phong, who was at Changi Airport to welcome the arrival of the aircraft today, said: "The new products are being introduced after four years of development work and we are confident they will truly ‘wow’ our customers, ensuring that we continue to provide them an unparalleled travel experience."

Each First Class Suite features an armchair and separate bed with 100% cotton duvet and fluffy pillows by Lalique. Double Suites are also available for passengers travelling together, where the centre divider between rooms makes way for a luxurious double bed.

The Business Class cabin features pod-like seats with purple leather upholstery and an enormous 18” touchscreen monitor paired with noise-cancelling headphones. The centre seats come with a personal divider that spans the entire length of the seat and can be lowered to create a completely double bed.

In addition to Sydney, the Airline’s A380s serve Auckland, Beijing, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, Mumbai, New Delhi, New York, Paris, Shanghai and Zurich. Additional destinations for the new products will be revealed in the coming months.
